The lookout tower on Gromnik (393 m above sea level), the highest peak of the Strzelińskie Hills, was built in 2012. It was constructed using a half-timbered structure. It is 25 m high and has a shingle roof. On Saturdays and Sundays from May 1 to autumn, you can climb to its top and admire the magnificent view of the Owl Mountains, the Bardo Mountains, the Wałbrzych Mountains, the Kłodzko Valley, and the Wrocław Plain from the observation deck free of charge. You can even see the Wrocław skyscraper Sky Tower.
Access to the viewing terrace is via a spiral wooden staircase and, in the final stage, a ladder. Right next to the tower, you can see the ruins of the castle of the robber knight Hans von Czirn, uncovered during archaeological work.
This is not the first lookout tower on Gromnik. The first was built on the summit clearing in 1825 on the initiative of the inhabitants of nearby Przeworno. In 1845, an inn was added to it. Material from the demolished castle was used.
In 1945, the tower was damaged by the Germans and then blown up by the retreating German army. Paradoxically, this opened the way to the discovery of the remains of the medieval buildings of Gromnik, which had previously been hidden under 19th-century tourist structures. However, the enthusiasm of archaeologists was dampened by the fact that in some places the rubble on the clearing below the summit reached a height of up to two meters. The clearing was not cleared until the beginning of the 21st century. During the work, relics of medieval brick buildings were found, which became the subject of scientific interest. It was found that most of the archaeological finds came from the 15th-century castle of the von Czirn family.
The car park is located on the road from Przeworno to Biały Kościół. The climb to the top of Gromnik along the wooden steps of the nature trail takes about 10 minutes.
