The 17th-century Holy Sepulcher complex is a replica of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, which was created based on the travels of Imperial Councilor Jan Putz of Adlersthurn to Jerusalem and to the sites associated with the suffering and death of Jesus Christ—places sacred to all Christians. To educate the faithful, he wanted to build a replica of the Holy Sepulcher in his homeland as well. Construction began in 1665 under the direction of the renowned architect Giulio Broggio and was completed in 1667. A year later, the chapel was solemnly consecrated.
